Richard obtained his degree in Law and American Studies at Keele University, attended the Guildford Law College and completed his training in London. On qualifying, Richard worked in a well known South Devon practice and in 2001 relocated to Bristol to work for Gregg Galbraith Quinn. In April 2007, Richard was made a partner at Gregg Latchams WRH. Richard is a member of the South West Landlord's Association, NRG and is a council member and the Parliamentary Liaison Officer for the Bristol Law Society. He also volunteers at the Avon and Bristol Law Centre once a month.

Richard lives to the south of Bristol with his wife, young daughter and two cats. Richard has a passion for music and film and can be found on a squash court several times a week. Richard is a member of the Bristol Junior Chamber of Commerce and is a school governor.
